General Knowledge of ABS Plastic
ABS resin is one of the five synthetic resins, which not only has impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, chemical resistance and excellent electrical properties, but also has easy processing, products good size stability, surface gloss, easy painting & coloring ability. It also can undertake surface spraying, electroplating, metal welding, hot pressing and adhesion and other secondary processing, which is widely used in machinery, automobile, electronic appliances, instruments and meters, textile and construction and other industrial areas and is a very versatile thermoplastic engineering plastics. ABS is usually light yellow or milk white aggregate noncrystalline resins, which make it one of the most widely used plastics.
Properties
Plastic ABS resin is the polymer with the largest production and the most widely application, which combines the properties of PB, PAN and PS together, and has good mechanics performance of phase equilibrium. It is found in practices that ABS plastic pipe is not resistant to vitriol corrosion, which will make it fracture. Due to its three components, it owns good performance; Acrylonitrile gives it chemical stability, oil resistance, certain rigidity and hardness; Butadiene increases its toughness, impact and cold tolerance; Styrene has good dielectric properties and presents a good machinability.
Most ABS is non-toxic, waterproof, but slightly penetrates vapor with low bibulous rate. ABS resin surface can be polished to obtain high gloss products. ABS has excellent physical and mechanical properties and low-temperature impact resistance. Electric properties, wear resistance, chemical resistance, dyeing, finished product processing and machining is good. ABS resin is resisted to water, inorganic salt, alkali and acid, which is insoluble in most of the alcohol and hydrocarbon solvents, but easily dissolves in Aldehydes, ketones, esters and certain chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Material properties
1. High impact strength, good chemical stability and electrical properties;
2. Great weld ability with 372 organic glass, making bi-color plastic part, which can be chromed and painting on the surface;
3. Having level of highly resistance, heat resistance, antiflaming, strength and transparent;
4. Mobility is worse than HIPS, but is better than PMMA, PC with good flexibility;
5. Applicable for general mechanical parts, anti-attrition parts, transmission parts and telecommunications components.
